I'm going to show you how easily false memories happen, why they happen, and what you can do to avoid them for good - while still being able to experience your past lives and believe what you see.
If you’ve been in the reincarnation space for awhile, you’ll inevitably see some things over and over again - like:
“I was a witch and burned at the stake in my past life.” Or
“I had a dream that I was [insert famous person here] so I must have been that person in my past life.”
I’m not here to argue with someone’s deeply held beliefs - however.
The chances of those “memories” being false are close to 100%. But before we dive into the why, let’s look at what a false memory really is.
What’s a False Memory and how and why does it happen?
Think of those old crime TV shows where the FBI agent plants a bug into a person’s home. The person already knows they’re being watched and listened to, so they’re careful about the things they say, right?
Let’s say that Jane came across a psychic in one of her witchcraft groups who promised to read her past life for her. Jane’s curiosity was piqued - the bug has been planted.
Jane has had a fairly rough time the last few months. She feels like a doormat at home and at work. “What have I done to deserve all this?” She asks herself.
Before her past life reading appointment, the psychic asks her, what have you been struggling with lately? What can I find in your past lives to ease your worries?
And Jane tells her that she feels persecuted by her family, her boss, and her friends. She just can’t catch a break.
During the reading, the psychic tells her she was punished in another life for things she didn’t understand. She was a witch who was burned at the stake for helping others.
Now, Jane wholeheartedly believes she had past life memories of being a witch, burned at the stake.
She may even dream about that event. She may feel it in her bones that that’s exactly what happened and why she feels like a doormat now.
Here’s the caveat:
Whether the psychic was genuine or her reading was correct - or not - isn’t relevant.
The bug was planted long before the reading, leading Jane to the conclusion she was a witch. This happened by proxy, from hearing others’ stories about it, by surrounding herself with other witches, and by comparing her own struggles to a well-documented series of events.
Once she had confirmation of her suspicions by the psychic, a false memory was created.
The danger in having false memories is that you can create more problems for yourself that simply don’t exist.
In Jane’s example, she may now become secretive and closed off to her friends and family because she doesn’t feel safe sharing her feelings and experiences anymore.
She might focus on that memory and begin to ask herself, “Why bother trying to fix things with my boss and family if I’m going to die trying?” - leading her to let her work slide, and eating fast food because the kitchen’s always dirty.
She may sink into a hopeless state and become reclusive because she feels that everyone is out to get her.
The false memory itself has actually caused Jane to experience a level of trauma she would’ve never had, if only she had done her homework before hiring someone to read her past lives.
That may be an extreme example, but is it? After all, it’s based on what I’ve witnessed personally over the years, over and over again. False memories have big effects.
What are some other ways you can have false memories planted?
Another example is when you’re in hypnosis, and your guide is leading you by asking you to find or go specific places. For example, your guide may say, “Now while you’re in Egypt,” but you either didn’t know you were in Egypt in the first place, or haven’t had any prior experience in Egypt.
Or the guide may ask, while you’re regressed into a memory, “Go toward the white house,” when you haven’t mentioned a white house being present.
This is less problematic than our first example, but it’s certainly a fabrication that can have consequences in the future when you’re experiencing past life memories, and it could sway your feelings and findings about what you really experienced.
This is also the main reason why some people feel that hypnosis is a faulty way of recalling your past lives.
So how do we prevent false memories from occurring in the first place?
3 ways you can avoid having false memories planted like the FBI’s wiretapping bug
1) Vet your practitioner
If you needed knee surgery, would you call your primary care physician to do it? Or the knee surgeon? You want a past life specialist to help you with past life things. The homework doesn’t stop there, though.
Once you’ve found some prospects to help you journey through your past lives, you want to make sure they have references, education, a legitimate business, and can tell you exactly what to expect from your session. You want the best knee surgeon you can find, not the one who barely graduated with his class.
2) Keep a healthy dose of skepticism AFTER your session
Once you have recalled a past life memory, even if it was emotionally charged and resonated with you, try to become the observer again and be objective and factual about what you experienced. Write down the facts, and the facts only. Does it still make sense to you? Do you believe what you saw? If it doesn’t make sense or you just don’t believe it was real, that’s not necessarily an indication of a false memory. But it does indicate something else needs to be explored about it. If it does make sense and you believe it was real, and you did your homework before you had the experience, you have nothing to worry about.
3) Have a trusted past life regression therapist to help you see your past lives
Having a trusted guide or practitioner to help you see your past lives avoids "leading", planted memories, and subliminal messaging that could be harmful. (This happens more with recorded past life meditations and regressions than live, in-person sessions.)
By having a trusted guide you have someone to analyze the details with you, to make sure it makes sense. This also helps reassure you it wasn't imagined, and you can set your mind at ease about it.
